Design Competition _ Honorable Mention (Group Project)

Urban Hub _ Historical Revitalization

The project is about urban revitalization of the historic sites. The selected area is near the old palace “Kyung-Bok Palace.” This place remained as the last main kingdom of Korea for several hundred years. However, the detrimental remnants of the Japanese colonial era can still be witnessed through the damaged existing features and blocked roads. To preserve the historical features to the maximum extent possible, original ornaments and fabrics were used as the design strategy. The basic concept of this project is to distribute meaningful segments of existing walls all throughout the area. Accordingly, the land, road, and architecture of the historic site will hold pieces of the stories from the past.
